Mohanpur: Police arrested a vehicle driver for carrying illegal intoxicating cough syrup (Ascoff) during a routine checking operation at Taltala Chhoto Amtali Road, under the jurisdiction of Bamutia Police Outpost.
The arrest was made as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive being conducted across the region to check the illegal trade and consumption of banned intoxicants. Police intercepted the vehicle during routine surveillance and recovered the contraband cough syrup, following which the driver was taken into custody.
Briefing the media on the development, SDPO Mohanpur Ashish Dasgupta said the operation forms part of a sustained effort by the police to make the state drug-free. He affirmed that such checking drives and anti-drug operations would continue in the coming days, and appealed to the public to extend their cooperation in identifying and reporting illegal drug activities in their localities.
Dasgupta also highlighted the police’s continued success in curbing the circulation of banned intoxicating substances in the district.
Among those present during the briefing were SDPO Mohanpur Ashish Dasgupta, Lefunga Police Station OC Rajkumar Jamatia, Bamutia Police Outpost OC Pritam Chakma, Sub-Inspector Nirpenjoy Jamatia, along with other police personnel.
