AGARTALA: In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at preventing road accidents, the Tripura Traffic Police Department organised a free eye check-up camp for drivers across all categories at Nazrul Kala Kshetra on July 14.
The camp was aimed at screening drivers for vision-related issues that could contribute to road mishaps, marking the first time such an initiative has been undertaken at the state level for the driving community.
West District Traffic SP Kantar Jahangir invited both government and private drivers to participate in the camp, emphasising the importance of regular eye check-ups in ensuring road safety.
Officials said poor eyesight is often an overlooked factor behind road accidents, and the initiative was designed to help identify and address such issues among drivers early.
The traffic department expressed hope that the camp would encourage greater awareness among the driving community about the link between vision health and safe driving, with similar initiatives likely to follow in the future.
