KHOWAI: Police detained another Bangladeshi national from the Dhalabil area in Khowai on Sunday night, even as security has been tightened across border belts to check infiltration.
The detained youth was identified as Mona Kumar Das, 30, son of Biren Chandra Das, a resident of Rangpur district in Bangladesh.
According to police, local residents first spotted the youth moving suspiciously near Dhalabil around 8 PM on Sunday. Suspicious of his behaviour and responses, residents detained him and alerted Khowai police station after he failed to give satisfactory answers and was found to be a Bangladeshi national.
Khowai police rushed to the spot and took the youth into custody. During preliminary interrogation, he reportedly confirmed his identity and place of origin.
Police said an investigation is underway to determine how he crossed into Indian territory without valid travel documents. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections, and further legal proceedings have begun.
Following the incident, security and surveillance have been further strengthened in Dhalabil and adjoining border areas, police added.
