Agartala:The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) on Wednesday announced that it would organise an agitation programme at the Circuit House in Agartala on June 24, raising several long-standing demands concerning reservation and education.
Addressing a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, TSF Vice-President John Debbarma said the demonstration would be held at the foot of the Gandhi statue adjacent to the Circuit House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. He was accompanied by other senior leaders of the organisation, including Manish Debbarma and Pikraj Debbarma.
Outlining the key demands, John Debbarma said the organisation was primarily pressing for the immediate filling up of vacant posts reserved under the SC, ST, and backlog reservation categories, alleging that a large number of such posts have remained unfilled for years despite repeated assurances from the government.
Alongside this, the TSF also reiterated its long-pending demand for the introduction of Kokborok textbooks in Roman script in schools, asserting that this would significantly benefit indigenous students by making the learning process more accessible and effective.
The TSF leaders alleged that successive governments had failed to give due attention to these issues despite continuous representations, leaving indigenous youth and students at a disadvantage. They urged the state government to take swift and concrete steps to address these demands before the scheduled agitation date.
The leaders further warned that if the government continued to remain unresponsive, the organisation would be compelled to intensify its movement in the coming days, adopting stronger forms of protest across the state.
