TELIAMURA: A long-awaited road development project got underway on Saturday with the foundation-laying ceremony of a 1.5-kilometre stretch from Teliamura Chakmaghat CRPF Camp to Birendra Das’s residence.
Tripura’s Minister for Tribal Welfare, Bikash Debbarma, laid the foundation stone in the presence of local public representatives, administrative officials, and a large gathering of residents.
The road, dilapidated for years, had long been a source of hardship for locals. During the monsoon, it would turn muddy and hazardous, disrupting vehicular movement and affecting students, patients, farmers and daily-wage workers alike. Despite repeated demands from residents, construction had not begun until now, leading to prolonged frustration in the area.
Officials said the completed road is expected to significantly improve connectivity, ease transport of agricultural produce, and boost access to education and healthcare services. Its stronger link to the national highway is also expected to spur the local economy and support the region’s broader development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Debbarma said the government’s development priorities are centred on the common people, particularly those in remote areas facing long-pending problems. He added that the project would end years of hardship for several families once completed, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining the pace of development in the region.
Following the ceremony, a festive atmosphere prevailed in the area, with residents expressing hope and relief. Locals said the moment marked not just the start of a road project, but the beginning of a new chapter of development for the region. They now await timely completion of the work.
