Men and women of West Halhali village in Kamalpur subdivision blocked the Kamalpur-Ambassa road at Nakful area on Saturday, demanding urgent repair of several roads in the village that have fallen into a state of disrepair.
The blockade brought traffic on the route to a halt as villagers pressed their demand for immediate action, citing prolonged neglect of the roads despite repeated appeals to authorities.
On receiving news of the protest, Halhali Panchayat Pradhan, Upa-Pradhan, and Panchayat Secretary, along with Durga Chowmuhani RD Block’s Panchayat Officer Rasik Lal Chakma, reached the site and appealed to the agitating villagers to hold discussions to resolve the matter.
The officials’ intervention aimed at de-escalating the protest and opening a dialogue between the administration and residents over the long-pending road repair demands.
It remains to be seen whether the discussions will result in a concrete timeline for repair work, as villagers continue to press for tangible action rather than assurances.
