Agartala: Police arrested two persons in connection with an assault and robbery case in which ₹2 lakh was snatched from a man at Lalbahadur area of Agartala, officials said on Friday.
According to police, victim Dhananjoy Tripura had come from Sabroom to the rented house of Rajesh Tripura at Lalbahadur, carrying ₹2 lakh to purchase a vehicle. At the time, Rajesh Tripura was not present at home. During this period, three to four persons allegedly entered, assaulted Dhananjoy Tripura, and fled with the cash.
Following the incident, Dhananjoy Tripura lodged a complaint at East Police Station, prompting an investigation. Acting swiftly, East Police Station personnel arrested two individuals from the Lalbahadur area on Thursday night.
Addressing the media on Friday, Sadar SDPO Debprasad Roy confirmed the arrests and said the accused would be produced before the court the same day with a remand application. He added that ₹1,35,000 had been recovered from the arrested persons so far, while efforts continue to trace the remaining amount and any other persons involved.
