AGARTALA: Questions have been raised over safety protocols at the construction site of the PRM Central Point Parking Zone at the old Motor Stand here, after a welding mishap allegedly injured two pedestrians on the road below.
According to locals, sparks from welding work being carried out on an upper level of the structure fell onto a boy and his mother as they were passing by. The child was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time, which prevented a more serious injury, though both he and his mother sustained injuries in the incident.
The incident triggered brief tension in the area, with residents alleging that construction material frequently falls from the site, putting pedestrians at risk. Locals said this was not an isolated occurrence and called for stricter safety measures at the site.
When contacted for a response, representatives of the construction company declined to comment.
