$2.3 billion and counting: Vivek Ramaswamy could become America’s second‑richest governor if he wins Ohio

Entrepreneur‑turned‑politician Vivek Ramaswamy is on track to become one of the wealthiest elected officials in the United States, with his fortune soaring to an estimated $2.3 billion, according to recent estimates. The sharp rise in wealth comes as Ramaswamy campaigns for the Ohio governor’s race, where a victory this November could make him the second‑richest governor in America.

Much of Ramaswamy’s fortune is tied to Roivant Sciences, the biotechnology company he founded. Strong gains in the company’s share price have helped more than double his estimated wealth since early 2025, when it was pegged at roughly $1 billion. Roivant shares have surged amid positive developments in the company’s drug pipeline and favourable investor sentiment toward the biotech sector.

According to estimates cited by Forbes, if Ramaswamy wins the Ohio governorship, he would rank behind only Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, whose fortune is estimated at around $4.2 billion, among serving US governors. He would also join the small group of American politicians whose wealth exceeds the billion‑dollar mark.

Roivant’s market value has seen substantial growth over the past two years, driven by encouraging clinical‑trial results and regulatory milestones. One key factor has been positive late‑stage data for brepocitinib, a treatment being developed for autoimmune conditions, as well as the US Food and Drug Administration’s recent approval of another Roivant‑linked therapy. These developments have boosted investor confidence and significantly increased the value of Ramaswamy’s holdings.

The 41‑year‑old first gained national attention during the US presidential race before pivoting toward state politics. Supporters view him as an outsider capable of bringing business expertise into government, while critics argue that his immense personal wealth may become a political issue during the campaign.

With the election approaching, Ramaswamy’s financial success has added another dimension to an already closely watched race, highlighting the growing intersection of business, wealth and politics in the United States.
