NALCHAR: A stark case of staff shortage has come to light at Rangamatia North High School under Nalchar Assembly constituency, where a single teacher is currently handling eight classes for around 100 students.
The school had earlier been conducting classes from Class I to Class V. With a nursery section recently added, the institution now runs a total of eight classes — from Nursery to Class VIII — all managed by one teacher.
The situation has raised serious concerns over the quality of education being imparted to students, with a single educator unable to adequately attend to multiple grade levels simultaneously. Parents and local residents are said to be worried about the impact on their children’s academic development given the acute shortage of teaching staff.
The case adds to a growing pattern of staffing imbalances in the state’s school education system, where some institutions report unusually low student-teacher ratios while others, like Rangamatia North, are severely understaffed.
Education department authorities are yet to respond on measures being taken to address the shortage at the school.
