Railway Blockade in Teliamura Disrupts Train Services Over Bridge Demand

Agartala:Residents of Wakshimlum area under Teliamura subdivision blocked railway tracks on Sunday, demanding construction of a bridge in the locality, causing complete disruption of train movement in the region.

The blockade left the long-distance Kanchanjunga Express stranded in the hilly terrain, while the Silchar-Agartala passenger train came to a standstill at Teliamura railway station. The sudden halt in rail services resulted in severe hardship for hundreds of passengers stranded across affected trains.

Among those inconvenienced were several Congress party leaders traveling toward Agartala for a scheduled political program. Unable to reach their destination due to the disruption, the leaders subsequently joined local residents in the protest demonstration at the station.

The agitation underscores longstanding infrastructure concerns among Wakshimlum residents, who have been demanding bridge construction to address connectivity issues in the area. The protest highlights the broader challenge of balancing local infrastructure demands with the disruption caused to essential public transport services.

Railway authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the duration of the blockade or resumption of normal train services. The incident reflects recurring tensions between grassroots demands for infrastructure development and the resulting impact on regional connectivity.
