Agartala: Paddy procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) is set to begin in Gomati district from July 10, with the state government holding a key preparatory meeting on Friday at the Video Conference Hall, Secretariat, to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, along with senior officials from the Food and Agriculture Departments. Sub-Divisional Magistrates and administrative officials from various subdivisions joined via video conference to discuss procurement logistics, farmer benefits, and on-ground preparedness.
During the meeting, ministers issued necessary directives to officials to ensure farmers face no difficulties while selling their paddy at the government-fixed support price, emphasizing the need for streamlined arrangements at procurement centres.
Officials said the initiative aims to guarantee fair returns for paddy growers in Gomati district, protecting them from distress sales to private buyers at lower market rates.
The government expects the programme to benefit a large number of farmers across the district, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening agricultural income support mechanisms in the state.
