Workers engaged by various NGOs under the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education’s Anganwadi wing submitted a deputation to the Department’s Director on Wednesday, protesting non-payment of salaries for the past nine months.
The workers, who were given employment opportunities in 2024, said they were compelled to approach the Director after months of financial hardship caused by the wage delay.
Speaking to the media following the deputation, the workers alleged that the terms of their employment have changed unfairly since they joined. They said no educational qualification was required at the time of their appointment, but the department has now begun terminating workers who lack formal qualifications.
The affected workers demanded immediate release of their pending salaries and sought clarity on the department’s current qualification requirements, questioning why standards were being applied retroactively to those already in service.
They urged the department to take swift action to resolve both the wage arrears and the uncertainty over their job security, warning that continued inaction could force further protests.
