AGARTALA: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Tuesday assured a delegation of surrendered militants of a speedy resolution to their long-standing demands, following talks at Mahakaran here.
The delegation, led by Kokla Joy Tripura and comprising surrendered members of the NLFT and ATTF, had staged a road blockade in the Khataikatar area of Bormura on August 28 over various demands. Debbarma had visited the site that day and assured protesters of positive discussions, paving the way for Tuesday’s meeting, which was also attended by senior police officials and department secretaries.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Kokla Joy Tripura said the minister had responded positively to their demands and expressed hope of a resolution through continued dialogue with the government.
Debbarma said the government was taking the issues seriously, with several matters already under process with the central government’s supervision, and that the state would continue working to address the remaining demands.
Both sides described the meeting as a step toward resolving the militants’ grievances through discussion, with further government action awaited.
