Dharmanagar: Tension gripped Dinnath Narayani Vidyamandir in Dharmanagar on Friday morning after students and parents staged a road blockade, protesting the school’s long-standing failure to open its gates on time.
The agitation erupted after students were unable to sit for a scheduled Class V examination because the gate remained closed. The exam was further disrupted as only one of the school’s three teachers was present that day, according to parents.
Parents alleged that the delayed opening of the gate has caused daily disruptions to students’ routines for a considerable period. Despite repeated appeals to Ward No. 12 councillor Bakul Rani Malakar, they said, no lasting solution had been implemented. Some parents also accused school clerk Bina Baspar of long-standing misbehaviour toward students and teachers and of involvement in unspecified irregularities. On being informed of the protest, councillor Bakul Rani Malakar and Hemchandra Chakma, in-charge of the school’s afternoon section, visited the site and held discussions with the agitating parents and students. Following assurances from the school management committee that the issue would be addressed promptly, the protesters withdrew their blockade.
However, a section of parents cautioned that they would launch a larger agitation if a permanent solution is not put in place soon, underscoring continuing frustration over the unresolved matter.
