Agartala: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath flagged off the export of Tripura’s Kalikhasa banana, fragrant lemon, and Queen Pineapple samples to foreign markets from the Agricultural Research Centre in A.D. Nagar, marking a step forward for the state’s push to promote its indigenous agricultural produce internationally.
The initiative is aimed at giving global visibility to Tripura’s distinctive horticultural products, which have long been prized for their unique flavour and quality within the region. Officials present at the event highlighted the potential of these crops to open new avenues for farmers and boost their income through export-oriented cultivation.
On the occasion, Minister Nath also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with multiple investors interested in the agriculture and horticulture sectors. The agreements are expected to pave the way for greater investment in the state’s farming ecosystem, including infrastructure, processing, and market linkages for local produce.
The move comes as part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen Tripura’s agricultural economy by tapping into export markets and attracting private investment. Officials said such initiatives could significantly benefit local farmers by providing better price realisation and expanding the reach of Tripura’s agricultural brand beyond domestic borders.
