Complainant says drug expired since December 2025; residents demand probe
Agartala: An allegation of selling expired medicines against a pharmacy in the Laltilla area under North Ramchandraghat, Khowai district, has triggered significant unrest in the locality, with residents demanding a fair investigation and legal action against those responsible.
According to the complaint, a resident of the Kaminipara area had purchased medicine for his ailing child from the local Maa Kali Medical Hall. When the child’s condition worsened instead of improving after taking the medicine, family members checked the expiry date printed on it and found that it had lapsed in December 2025. The individual subsequently approached the pharmacy and lodged a complaint.
Local residents alleged that a lack of regular monitoring has allowed pharmacies to operate illegally and without proper regulation in various areas, also raising questions over the regularity of Drug Inspector inspections.
Complainants questioned how a medicine that had expired nearly eight months earlier ended up being sold, demanding scrutiny into whether the shop had gone uninspected for a prolonged period or whether there was negligence in oversight.
Residents further demanded a neutral probe and appropriate legal action against the shop’s owner, identified as Tapas Kumar Deb.
