Kailashahar:Alleging unchecked drug trafficking and a rise in theft linked to addiction, Ward No. 9 councillor Manasi Chakraborty, along with a large number of residents, submitted a written complaint at Kailashahar police station on Thursday, demanding strict legal action against those involved in the drug trade.
The complaint names Srinikaton Shopping Complex, the area near the crematorium, the neighbourhood beside the cinema hall, and other nearby locations as hotspots where drug dealing has continued unabated for a long time. Residents said the growing presence of drug users has created a sense of insecurity, with many now afraid to step out after evening.
They further alleged that theft cases have risen alongside the drug trade, citing a recent daytime theft at Sarbananda Smarani, along with several smaller incidents reported from nearby neighbourhoods. Locals believe some addicts are turning to crime to fund their habit.
Speaking to the media, Chakraborty said the situation in the ward had become alarming and called for the identification of those behind the drug trade, along with regular police surveillance and raids in affected areas.
Police are yet to issue an official response. Residents hope swift action will restore safety and normalcy to the locality.
