AGARTALA: Tripura’s escalating drug crisis took centre stage on Wednesday as the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state committee submitted a deputation to the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, demanding strict action against those involved in narcotics trafficking across the state.
In the deputation, DYFI leaders alleged that drug substances have become disturbingly visible across public spaces in the state — from government vehicles to railway stations to post offices — with little visible response from the administration. The organisation accused the state government of showing no concern despite the worsening situation.
Briefing reporters after the submission, DYFI state secretary Nabarun raised pointed questions over the source and supply chain of the narcotics flooding the state, asking where the substances were coming from and who was responsible for trafficking them. He demanded that authorities identify and punish the culprits without delay.
The deputation calls on police to launch a thorough investigation into the networks allegedly operating with impunity and to ensure accountability at all levels.
DYFI’s intervention adds to growing public concern over substance abuse in Tripura, with several organisations in recent months flagging the issue at various administrative levels.
