Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Drinking Water Supply (DWS) Department, alleging widespread corruption and irregularities in the state’s drinking water supply system, including under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Party representatives travelled from Congress Bhawan to the DWS office to hand over the memorandum, which claims that corruption, use of substandard materials, and inadequate oversight in various drinking water schemes have deprived residents across the state of access to clean drinking water.
Congress specifically raised concerns over the quality of alum used in water purification, alleging that substandard alum is being used, increasing the risk of contamination and pointing to possible corruption in procurement. The memorandum further cited rising cases of waterborne diseases, defective pipelines, and supply of untreated water in several parts of the state as evidence of systemic failure.
The party demanded a transparent investigation into alum quality standards, legal action against those found responsible for the alleged corruption, and immediate steps to ensure safe and purified drinking water supply throughout Tripura.
Congress leaders said the issue, being directly linked to public health, warranted urgent government intervention, and urged authorities to act swiftly rather than allow the matter to remain unaddressed.
