Agartala: The Directorate of Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture, Government of Tripura, organized “Mera Resham Mera Abhiman 2.0” on Friday at the THHDC Purbasha Complex, aimed at promoting sericulture and supporting weavers and silk farmers across the state.
Minister Bikash Debbarma attended the event as the chief guest, along with West Tripura District Zilla Sabhadhipati-in-charge Biswajit Sheel and other senior officials of the department.
As part of the programme, solar lights, tool kits, and various sericulture-related materials were distributed to beneficiaries, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and boosting productivity among those engaged in silk farming and allied handicraft activities across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Debbarma highlighted the state government’s continued commitment to promoting the handloom and sericulture sector as a means of generating sustainable livelihoods, particularly in rural areas where the industry provides significant employment opportunities.
Officials said initiatives like “Mera Resham Mera Abhiman” are designed to modernize traditional sericulture practices while ensuring better market access and improved quality of life for artisans and silk farmers dependent on the sector.
The event saw participation from a large number of beneficiaries, weavers, and stakeholders associated with Tripura’s handloom and sericulture industry, reflecting the sector’s continued importance to the state’s rural economy.
