TELIAMURA: A youth died on the spot in a road accident on the Golabari–Maiganga road under Teliamura police station on Thursday night, after a car and a motorcycle collided head-on.
The deceased has been identified as Pranay Dey, alias Jun, a resident of the Jaynagar area under Teliamura thana. According to local sources, the impact of the collision was so severe that Dey, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained critical injuries at the spot and succumbed to them there.
On receiving information about the accident, personnel from the fire department rushed to the scene and recovered the youth, rushing him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival, and his body has since been kept at the hospital morgue.
The accident has cast a pall of grief over the locality. Police have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances that led to the head-on collision between the two vehicles. The incident has also reignited concerns among residents over road safety and unregulated night-time traffic movement along the stretch.
