AGARTALA: The Sarat Sanskriti Parishad observed the 150th birth anniversary of noted humanist litterateur Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in front of Ujjayanta Prasad here on Monday, paying tribute to one of Bengali literature’s most celebrated novelists.
The programme was organised with due reverence in keeping with the significance of the occasion, marking a century and a half since the birth of the writer widely regarded for his deep humanism and vivid portrayal of social realities in rural Bengal. Sarat Chandra’s works, spanning novels and short stories, continue to be read and studied for their sensitive treatment of human relationships and social issues.
Members of the Sarat Sanskriti Parishad gathered at the venue to commemorate the occasion, reflecting on the enduring literary and cultural legacy left behind by the author. The choice of Ujjayanta Prasad as the venue lent further significance to the observance, given the palace’s own historical and cultural importance to the state.
