Sipahijala resident intercepted during routine GRP checks; Chennai smuggling link suspected
Udaipur: A youth was apprehended at Udaipur railway station on Sunday morning after police recovered 12 kilograms of ganja from his bag during a routine search operation.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police were conducting checks when the Sabroom–Kanchanjunga Express arrived at the station. Officers noticed a young man behaving suspiciously and detained him for questioning. When he failed to give a satisfactory account of his bag’s contents, a search was conducted, leading to the recovery of the narcotics.
The detained youth was identified as Sagar Miya (19), a resident of the Mohanbhog area in Sipahijala district.
Preliminary investigation suggests the seized ganja was being transported for smuggling to Chennai. On receiving information about the seizure, a large police contingent led by the Officer-in-Charge of Radhakishorepur Police Station reached the spot to begin further investigation. Police estimated the market value of the recovered contraband at over a lakh rupees.
Investigators are now working to trace the source of the ganja, identify its intended recipient, and uncover other members of the trafficking network. The accused is being interrogated, and the case remains under active investigation.
