Damchhara: In one of the biggest anti-narcotics successes by Tripura Police in recent times, Damchhara Police Station personnel seized approximately 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets, valued at nearly ₹7.5 crore, from the Assam-Damchhara border gate on Tuesday.
According to police sources, the operation was carried out following a tip-off regarding the alleged smuggling of narcotics through the border area. Acting swiftly, police personnel intercepted a vehicle at the border gate and recovered the consignment of Yaba tablets concealed within it.
During the operation, police arrested one alleged trafficker in connection with the seizure, and the vehicle used to transport the contraband was confiscated. The arrested individual has been identified as being involved in cross-border narcotics trafficking, police said, though further verification of his role and any wider network is currently underway.
A case has been registered, and police have launched a detailed investigation to identify any other individuals involved in the smuggling operation, as well as to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.
Officials described the seizure as a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating along the Tripura-Assam border.
