BISHRAMGANJ: Dozens of women from Chechhurimai Gram Panchayat gathered at Bishramganj police station on [date] to submit a deputation demanding immediate action against an alleged liquor and gambling operation running near a local school.
The women alleged that shops adjacent to Chechhurimai Higher Secondary School have been hosting liquor consumption and gambling sessions late into the night, reportedly disturbing the peace and safety of the area. According to the women, the activity has continued unchecked despite the school’s proximity, prompting them to approach police directly.
Villagers claimed that repeated informal complaints had failed to yield results, which they said reflected a lapse on the part of local law enforcement in curbing the illegal activity.
Police at Bishramganj station received the deputation; no official statement on planned action had been issued at the time of filing.
The protest adds to a series of recent community-led demonstrations across rural Tripura against unchecked liquor and gambling establishments near educational institutions.
