Agartala: Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, on Tuesday inspected a series of key women and child welfare facilities in the Abhoynagar area of Agartala, reviewing the progress of ongoing infrastructure and welfare initiatives in the state.
As part of her visit, the Union Minister toured the Girls Unit-2, a Child Care Institution (CCI), which provides shelter and care services for girls. She also visited the ‘Saksham’ Anganwadi Centre, located adjacent to the Mahila Ashram, which functions as a key facility under the government’s early childhood care and nutrition programmes.
In addition, Annpurna Devi inspected the construction site of a proposed hostel for working women, examining the progress of the under-construction facility, which is intended to provide safe and affordable accommodation for women employed in the city.
The Union Minister was accompanied throughout the inspection by Tripura’s Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, along with the department’s Secretary, Tapan Das, who briefed her on the current status of the various projects.
During the visit, Annpurna Devi enquired in detail about the progress of ongoing projects, the pace of infrastructural development at the sites, and the overall implementation of welfare services aimed at women and children across the state. She is understood to have taken stock of the functioning of these institutions as part of the central government’s broader push to strengthen child care and women’s welfare infrastructure nationwide.
The inspection comes amid sustained coordination between the Centre and the Tripura government on women and child development schemes, with officials indicating that several such facilities are at various stages of completion across the state.
