Udaipur : The Udaipur Sub-Divisional Administration carried out a fresh crackdown on food adulteration and quality violations this week, sealing two ice-cream factories and imposing fines totalling ₹47,000 on erring establishments.
On instructions from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, a joint team comprising officials from the Health Department, Food Safety Wing, Food Department, and Legal Metrology Department inspected shops, sweet shops, hotels, and ice-cream factories across the stretch from Brahmabari Bazar to Matabari Bazar. Expired packaged food items and cold drinks were seized from several shops during the operation.
Two ice-cream factories were sealed after inspectors found their products lacked printed expiry dates and the premises were maintained in unhygienic conditions.
District Health Officer Dr. Shubhendu Debbarma said such drives are conducted regularly with consumer health as the priority, adding that legal action would continue against establishments found violating norms. He confirmed that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate would take further necessary steps as required under law.
The crackdown triggered considerable unease among local traders and business owners in the area.
