AGARTALA:A two-day Tuberculosis Screening and Awareness Programme got underway on Wednesday at the Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT) in Abhoynagar, organised under the state Health and Family Welfare Department’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
The programme, running from July 29 to 30 between 11 am and 4 pm each day, aims to raise public awareness about tuberculosis, educate people on recognising its symptoms, and enable early detection through screening and health check-ups.
Expert doctors and health workers are present at the venue to guide participants on TB prevention, early warning signs, the importance of timely testing, and the need to complete the full course of treatment once diagnosed, officials said.
RIPSAT Principal Rishiraj Chhetri, briefing on the programme, said the initiative was aimed at ensuring wider community participation in early detection efforts and reinforcing the message that TB is both preventable and curable with timely intervention.
Health officials expressed hope that the two-day drive would encourage more people from the area to come forward for screening and adopt preventive practices against the disease.
