AGARTALA:Continuing an annual tradition, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday sent a consignment of pineapples as a goodwill gift to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, with the fruits crossing over through the Akhaura Integrated Check Post near Agartala.
The handover took place at the zero point of the border after completion of necessary paperwork, with Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Secretary Apurba Roy handing over the pineapple packets to Pankaj Jyoti Das, Assistant Consular Officer at the Indian Assistant High Commission’s Chittagong branch. Other officials present included Director Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia, Consultant Dr. Rajib Ghosh, Santanu Debbarma, and Land Ports Authority official Debashish Majumder, along with officer Sajib Chakraborty from the Bangladesh side.
Secretary Apurba Roy said the gesture came in response to mangoes sent earlier by the Bangladesh Prime Minister, expressing hope it would further strengthen bilateral warmth. Director Jamatia said the state’s tasty Queen variety pineapples were sent — 100 packets in all, with six pieces each, totalling 600 pineapples.
