AGARTALA: To ensure free, fair, and peaceful voting, the West Tripura District Administration has imposed strict prohibitory orders across the district ahead of the TTAADC Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28.
The extensive restrictions, issued by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, are slated to remain in force from 4:00 PM on September 26 until 6:00 AM on September 29.
Under these orders, the unlawful assembly of five or more persons has been strictly banned throughout the district, particularly within a 200-metre radius of all designated polling stations. The directive explicitly prohibits public meetings, political rallies, and the use of loudspeakers. Carrying any potential weapons—including iron rods, sticks, stones, and bamboo—is also completely outlawed.
According to administration officials, these preventive measures are aimed at curbing the illegal distribution of cash, liquor, or promotional gifts intended to influence voters. Polling will take place on September 28 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and authorities have warned of strict legal action against anyone attempting to disrupt the democratic process.
