Agartala: Tripura’s rural bodies have script history by securing multiple prestigious accolades at the National Panchayat Awards 2025. Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat on Saturday, Rural Development (Panchayat) Minister Kishor Barman lauded the state’s exemplary performance in rural self-governance and the localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The state clenched massive victories, led by the Sepahijala District Panchayat, which was declared the “Best District Panchayat” in India, securing a financial incentive of ₹5 crore. Additionally, Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat under Unakoti district bagged the top national position in the “Healthy Panchayat” category with a ₹1 crore cash prize, while West Tripura’s Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat secured the third national rank as a “Women-Friendly Panchayat,” receiving ₹50 lakh.
Minister Barman emphasized that these national honors reflect the unwavering commitment of grassroots representatives, government employees, and the rural populace toward transparency, robust public service, and sustainable infrastructure development. “This landmark recognition will heavily motivate our local bodies to innovate further,” Barman stated, reaffirming the state government’s dedication to driving inclusive growth and empowering the Panchayati Raj system across Tripura.
