AGARTALA: A delegation of transport workers submitted a deputation to the Joint Commissioner at the Commissionerate of Transport here, raising concerns over laws and decisions affecting auto, e-auto and e-rickshaw operators in the city.
Led by convenor Amal Chakraborty, members of the organisation gathered outside the Commissionerate holding red flags and banners, protesting what they termed anti-worker laws and decisions concerning vehicle operations in the city. They alleged that such decisions were being taken without regard for the livelihoods and interests of transport workers.
The deputation raised two key demands: reconsideration of laws or decisions affecting auto, e-auto and e-rickshaw workers, and that any future measures on city traffic and vehicle operations be undertaken only after consultation with transport workers, safeguarding their employment and livelihoods.
Chakraborty said the deputation aimed to bring workers’ long-pending problems before the administration, warning that the organisation would launch a larger movement if their interests continued to be ignored.
The programme was attended by workers and members affiliated with the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation and CITU, who reiterated their resolve to continue agitating until their demands are met.
