Agartala: A fire broke out suddenly in a transformer near Malay Nagar Bypass on Friday, triggering panic among residents before Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
Local residents alleged that despite alerting staff of the Jogendra Nagar Electricity Department immediately after the fire started, departmental personnel took considerable time to reach the site. Houses in the vicinity narrowly escaped damage as the fire was contained before it could spread further.
Residents expressed concern over the delayed response, saying a quicker turnout from the electricity department could have prevented the situation from escalating, given the transformer’s proximity to residential homes.
No injuries were reported in the incident, though the exact cause of the fire remained unclear at the time of filing this report.
Locals have called for a review of maintenance protocols for transformers in the area, along with faster emergency response mechanisms from the electricity department to prevent similar incidents in the future.
