Traders Enraged Over Demolition of Historic Jalabazar Market Shed

PANISAGAR: Tensions escalated in the Jalabazar area under Uttar Padmabil Gram Panchayat on Sunday following the controversial demolition of an old, long-standing market shed. The sudden leveling of the commercial structure has triggered massive public outcry and widespread resentment among local traders and residents.

The demolition has sparked a flurry of serious allegations against local authorities. Enraged shopkeepers are questioning the legal validity of the eviction mandate, claiming that no proper notice or alternative arrangements were provided. Furthermore, a fierce dispute has erupted over the ownership of the commercial land on which the shed stood for decades.

Adding fuel to the fire, local business owners allege that the valuable building materials retrieved from the dismantled structure—including iron beams and tin sheets—were illegally sold off by certain elements behind the scenes, rather than being accounted for officially.

As local businesses face sudden displacement and economic uncertainty, the trading community has demanded an immediate inquiry into the incident. Representatives warned that they will launch a larger democratic protest if the administration fails to clarify the legitimacy of the demolition and secure fair compensation for the affected vendors.
