AGARTALA: A major fire broke out at a residential property in the Dhaleswar Road No. 8 area on Sunday afternoon, triggered by a domestic gas cylinder leak during routine cooking. Although no casualties were reported, the massive blaze completely gutted the house, reducing valuable furniture and household belongings to ashes.
According to family members, the fire ignited instantly from the kitchen stove due to an undetected leakage in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder pipe. Within minutes, the aggressive flames spread from the kitchen to the adjoining living quarters, trapping the occupants inside briefly before they managed to escape to safety.
Panicked neighbors rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the roaring flames with water buckets while alerting the emergency services. Upon receiving the call, two fire tenders from the Agartala Fire Station dashed to the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under complete control, successfully preventing the fire from leaping onto tightly packed adjacent houses. While the family escaped unhurt, property worth thousands of rupees was lost. Local authorities have initiated an assessment of the damage.
