AGARTALA: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday responded to media queries regarding the alleged smuggling of narcotic substances into Agartala via train, amid growing concerns over the use of rail routes for drug trafficking into the state.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and is reported to have assured that the state administration is taking note of the matter, with enforcement agencies expected to intensify vigilance at railway stations and along rail routes leading into Tripura.
Agartala Railway Station, being a key transit point connecting the state to the rest of the country, has reportedly come under scrutiny following instances of narcotics being transported through rail consignments and passenger movement. Officials and security agencies are believed to be reviewing surveillance and checking mechanisms at the station to curb such activities.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of Tripura’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking, with the state government having repeatedly emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics. Authorities have in the past conducted several seizure operations across different parts of the state targeting the smuggling network.
While the Chief Minister did not elaborate on specific enforcement measures during his interaction with the press, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling the drug menace and ensuring the safety of the state’s youth from substance abuse.
