Amtali: Tension erupted at Bikramnagar Hospital Chowmuhani under Amtali police station on Saturday evening after local residents caught two young couples in a house that had reportedly been the subject of allegations of immoral activities for several months.
According to locals, the group carried out a search of the premises following long-standing complaints and confronted those present, subjecting them to physical assault before police arrived. One of the accused has been identified as Priyam Banik, a resident of Dhaleshwar in Agartala.
In a separate and concerning development, a journalist covering the incident was allegedly attacked by one of the accused women, who reportedly snatched and damaged his mobile phone while he was recording the scene. The assault on the media personnel drew sharp criticism from local residents, several of whom protested against the incident.
Police reached the spot after being alerted to the unrest, brought the situation under control, and took one accused into custody. Two other men and a woman allegedly linked to the matter managed to flee before police arrived.
Police said an investigation has been launched into the incident, and efforts are underway to trace those still at large. The allegations against those involved remain unverified pending inquiry.
