Tablet Haul: Assam Rifles, Customs Seize Yaba Worth Rs 72 Crore in West Tripura

Agartala: Assam Rifles and Customs officials seized Yaba tablets worth about Rs 72 crore in Mohanpur, West Tripura, in one of the larger anti-narcotics operations in the state in recent times.

The seizure was made during a joint operation by the paramilitary force and the Customs department. The contraband, a methamphetamine-based synthetic drug popularly known as Yaba, has an estimated market value of around Rs 72 crore.

Tripura’s location along the international border with Bangladesh has made it a known transit corridor for narcotics moving towards other parts of the country. Security agencies have stepped up vigil in border and interior areas to check the trafficking of such substances.

Yaba tablets are particularly dangerous because of their addictive nature and growing popularity among young people, a concern repeatedly raised by law enforcement agencies across the Northeast.
