Mohanpur: Several members of a family were allegedly injured following an attack linked to a long-standing dispute over jhum land at Artha Chandra Para under Hejamara Block in Tripura’s Mohanpur subdivision on Saturday.
According to the affected family, Kiran Mala Debbarma and her relatives, residents of Balyachhara under Sidhai Police Station, have been cultivating and possessing around 15 kani of jhum land in Artha Chandra Para for several decades.
The family alleged that residents Shankar Debbarma and Rabindra Debbarma, along with others, have been attempting to forcibly occupy the land. They claimed that when they approached the other party to resolve the matter through discussion, they were allegedly attacked by a group of nearly 50 local and outside individuals.
The injured have been identified as Kiran Mala Debbarma, Sanjit Debbarma, Braj Debbarma and Rohesh Debbarma, among others, according to the family’s statement.
Speaking to the media, members of the family said they would lodge a formal complaint with Sidhai Police Station. They also appealed to the police and civil administration for protection, alleging threats to their lives, and sought a fair investigation and resolution of the dispute.
The allegations could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response available from the accused persons or the police at the time of filing this report.
The incident has once again drawn attention to recurring disputes over land ownership and alleged land encroachment in the state, with local residents urging the authorities to take stricter action against illegal land grabbing and ensure protection for affected families.
