Agartala :The critical stretch of National Highway 208 from Erarpar-Manikbhandari through Lambucharai-Anandabazar remains in deplorable condition, posing serious safety risks to commuters despite repeated complaints to authorities.
The road, riddled with large potholes and broken sections, now presents a hazard to the thousands of daily users including school and college students, office-goers, ambulances, and commercial trucks. During monsoon season, waterlogged stretches render potholes invisible, creating what locals describe as “death traps.”
Residents report that the deteriorating infrastructure has escalated vehicle repair costs, disrupted traffic flow, and heightened accident risks. Despite multiple media reports highlighting the issue, no concrete action has been initiated by the concerned departments, according to local sources.
“Taxes are collected and assurances are given, but nothing changes on ground,” said area residents, expressing frustration over the apparent administrative apathy.
The civic complaint has drawn attention to broader questions of accountability and public safety. Local inhabitants are now demanding immediate and permanent repairs to the highway rather than further delays or promises.
