AGARTALA: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Wednesday alleged that the State Election Commission failed to take seriously the opposition’s demand for re-polling at ten centres in the recently held Village Committee (VC) elections.
According to Chaudhury, opposition parties had sought fresh voting at the ten centres, but the commission did not give the demand due importance.
The VC elections in the tribal council areas were held on Monday, September 28, following a Supreme Court intervention. Chaudhury has earlier accused the state government of delaying the polls for nearly a decade, saying the people of these areas were deprived of grassroots democratic participation.
