AGARTALA: West Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will travel to New York as a member of India’s Parliamentary Delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Deb is scheduled to be in New York from October 5 to 9, where he will take part in engagements linked to the session and India’s parliamentary representation at the global forum. His inclusion places a representative from Tripura in the country’s parliamentary outreach at the United Nations.
According to the 81st UNGA Priorities Paper issued by India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, New Delhi has stressed greater participation in UN activities and stronger advocacy for the developmental priorities of the Global South. Climate change financing, counter-terrorism, artificial intelligence, maritime security, peacekeeping and UN reforms are among the issues India is expected to highlight.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar led the Indian delegation for the session’s High Level Week.
