AGARTALA: BJP Pradesh President and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Tuesday defended the removal of opposition MLA Sudip Roy Barman from the Assembly session hall, backing the Speaker’s authority to maintain order, while denying any ongoing talks with Tipra Motha.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP Pradesh office, Bhattacharjee said discipline in Assembly proceedings was essential and that decisions taken by Speaker Ram Pada Jamatia, along with House rules, deserved respect, referring to the previous day’s incident involving Roy Barman.
He also criticised recent public remarks by CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, calling portions of their statements distasteful and politically indecorous, and said political differences should not be expressed through personal attacks.
On speculation of a political understanding with Tipra Motha, Bhattacharjee said no discussions had taken place with the party on any issue so far, dismissing the reports as baseless.
