AGARTALA: The Tripura Legislative Assembly witnessed heated debates as opposition lawmakers cornered the ruling government over a crippling teacher shortage and Permanent Resident Certificate (PRTC) criteria.
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury initiated a crucial discussion on the state’s severe deficit of educators. He warned that empty classrooms are pushing public education to the brink of collapse. Expressing deep anxiety, senior MLA Sudip Roy Barman echoed these concerns. He noted that the prevailing lack of academic infrastructure has paralyzed learning across rural and urban institutions.
The Permanent Resident Certificate (PRTC) guidelines emerged as another major flashpoint. Sudip Roy Barman along with MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and Jitendra Chaudhury vociferously raised their voices against current local employment policies. They demanded immediate transparency and reforms to protect the job security and recruitment rights of native residents.
In a separate humanitarian appeal, Roy Barman made an earnest plea to the state government to extend urgent support and relief for Monasree.
In response, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha defended the government’s track record, stating that thousands of graduate and post-graduate teachers have been recruited since 2018. However, the opposition remains firm, demanding concrete administrative action rather than statistical reassurances.
