AMTALI: A married youth was allegedly murdered late Monday night in the Kathaltali area under Amtali police station, triggering tension across the locality on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Samir Das of Kathaltali, who had reportedly been embroiled in a long-standing dispute with local resident Swapan Sutradhar, alias Sappa. According to locals, Das was returning home on his scooty late Monday night when the accused allegedly intercepted him near the Kathaltali Shani Mandir, pulled him off the vehicle, and attacked him with a sharp weapon. Das died on the spot, while the accused fled the scene.
Locals discovered the blood-soaked body shortly afterward and alerted the family and police. Amtali OC Inspector Paritosh Das rushed to the spot with additional security personnel, while a forensic team and dog squad were summoned to investigate.
The body was sent to Hapania Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Tension remained high in the area through Tuesday morning, prompting deployment of extra security forces.
Police have launched a manhunt for the absconding accused. The victim’s family has demanded stringent punishment for the perpetrator.
