Melaghar: Chief Minister Manik Saha attended the Neermahal Jal Utsav 2026 in Melaghar, using the occasion to stress the importance of heritage conservation, eco-tourism and local livelihood development in Tripura.
Speaking at the festival, the Chief Minister highlighted the need to protect the state’s historical and cultural landmarks for future generations. He said heritage sites like Neermahal are not only symbols of Tripura’s royal past but also valuable assets that can attract visitors from across the country and beyond.
Saha also emphasised eco-tourism, noting that the state’s natural beauty, lakes and green landscapes offer strong potential for sustainable tourism. He said such development must go hand in hand with environmental protection.
The Chief Minister further underlined that tourism growth should benefit local communities. Promoting local livelihood opportunities, he said, would help create jobs and strengthen the rural economy around tourist destinations.
Neermahal, often called the water palace of Tripura, stands amid the Rudrasagar lake near Melaghar and is among the state’s most recognised heritage attractions. The Jal Utsav celebrates the monument and its surrounding waters, drawing attention to the region’s tourism potential.
Officials and local residents were also present at the event.
