MOHANPUR: Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), cut down and destroyed approximately 80,000 cannabis plants during an anti-drug drive in the Urabari area under Noagaon Village Committee, within Sidhai police station limits, on Tuesday.
Acting on secret information, the joint forces conducted the operation across ten plots, destroying an estimated 50,000 cannabis plants from two plots and 30,000 from eight others.
The operation was led by Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ashish Dasgupta, along with other personnel.
Speaking to the media, SDPO Dasgupta said the drive was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, with the objective of ridding Tripura of drug cultivation and trafficking. He added that such operations would continue in the coming days as part of the administration’s broader anti-narcotics campaign.
