Mohanpur: A 55-year-old MGNREGA (REGA) worker died suddenly on Friday morning while working at a field site. The deceased, identified as Rabi Charan Debbarma, was a resident of Dinabandhu Para under the Abicharan Village Committee in Mohanpur’s Lefunga Block.
Preliminary reports strongly suspect that Debbarma suffered a fatal heatstroke due to the intense, soaring temperatures while executing physical labor outdoors. Witnesses stated that he suddenly collapsed on the spot and breathed his last before any medical intervention could reach him.
Following the tragic incident, Lefunga Block Development Officer (BDO), along with the Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) and local administrative staff, visited the mourning family to offer condolences.
The BDO confirmed that Debbarma appeared completely healthy and fine when he reported for work earlier that morning, making his sudden demise highly unexpected. The block administration has initiated immediate administrative assessments to expedite financial compensation and relief for the deceased worker’s family. The tragic on-site death has sparked widespread panic and deep anxiety among local laborers regarding the lack of heatwave safety protocols at outdoor workplaces.
