Health Secretary Conducts Surprise Inspection at North District Hospital Following Public Outcry

Dharmanagar: Responding to a wave of severe public grievances, State Health Secretary Kiran Gitte conducted an unannounced, surprise inspection of the North Tripura District Hospital in Dharmanagar. The high-profile visit comes against the backdrop of mounting public resentment regarding deteriorating facilities and operational irregularities at the government run facility.

Accompanied by senior administration officials, including District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, the Health Secretary comprehensively toured the Outpatient Department (OPD), emergency unit, and indoor wards to evaluate the ground reality.

For months, patients and local residents had alleged a complete lack of basic amenities, including defunct drinking water purification machinery and highly unhygienic conditions in the wards. Serious complaints were also raised regarding a critical shortage of on-duty doctors, long waiting lines without service, and the forced outsourcing of blood tests to private external labs.

Following the inspection, Gitte chaired a high-level review meeting with hospital authorities and Public Works Department (PWD) officials. He issued a stern ultimatum to rectify all operational lapses immediately, emphasizing that public healthcare must be clean, reliable, and timely. To permanently resolve the burden, the Health Secretary also announced upcoming infrastructure upgrades, including a new sub-divisional hospital and an Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) for the region.
